Book Report
Solomon Northup was born a free man in Minerva New York, in 1808. We don't know much about his mother, who his narrative does not identify her by her name. His father Mintus, was originally enslaved to the Northup family from Rhode Island but he was freed after the family moved to New York. As a young man Northup would help his father on the farms and worked as a raftsman on the waterways in New York.
He later married a woman named Anne Hampton who was a mixed white/black race, They had three children together. He got recognized as an exultant Fiddle player. Two men offered him to travel in a music band and they said that they would pay him very well but they drugged him and sold him into slavery. He sold very fast in a auction in New Orleans. He didn't just serve for one person he served for multiple and some would beat him. A agent was sent to get him and the agent got him free but after he was a free man he tried to file kidnapping charges against the two men. In the book two years a slave Northup goes through many hard times from working as a Raftsman on the rivers to becoming a slave and having to work for other people without getting paid. Northup was beaten sold and worked just to live, If he did not work he would be killed.
This book relates to the real world because this happened to many african americans. they would be taken from there homes and turned into slaves. African americans in this time would be beaten or even killed for not working or doing what they were told. This book completely related to the real world by people would be drugged and kidnapped. The movie was about many things they talked about but what stuck out in my head was the love canal and how they dumped toxic chemicals in the canal. The canal then over flowed into peoples homes creating children to become sick and have birth defects. In the video they dumped over 20,000 toxic chemicals in the canal. One over protective mother got concerned with her child's health and called the school and told them they cant be that close to the canal anymore. The school thought that this was absurd at first but then they found out that she was not the only parent with A sick kid. The school and the angry parents confronted the government asking them to give them money so they could move. They did this because the toxic waste was a health concern. The government said not at first but then said yes because of all the protests.
Whales play a very important role in the health of our environment and our understanding of marine mammals as well as playing an important role in helping growing economies that rely on whale watching and other spectator activities bring in capital through tourism. Whales can eat 15,000 squid a day and that is good because they keep the squid population in check. If we didnt have whales numbers of marine life would starve to death due to overpopulation in that species. Whales will be on the verge of extiction if we keep killing them. Although whales fat is used for many things it is not worth killing some of the most elegant creatures of the sea for.

I think saving the whales is important because they are a very unique animal and important in the ecosystem ''Thirty thousand beaks have been found in a sperm whale stomach indicating they had eaten 15,000 squid'' the sperm whale keeps the squid population in check''Sea Shepherd has gone on to end the careers of 9 illegal whaling vessels, saving thousands of whales. These campaigns and other Sea Shepherd efforts have kept the issue of whaling in the international spotlight for the past thirty years. The news keeps people in action and aware of this problem. Whale fat and grease is used as a lubricant in machinery and as a lamp oil to release light. Their is many other options that they could use for those simple tasks. The extinction of the whale is almost here and it is not worth it.
General Patton
George Patton was born in San Gabriel California on November 11, 1885. He was considered one of the most successful combat leaders of all time. He attended the U.S. Military Academy at West Point and graduated on June 11, 1909. Patton married Beatrice Ayer, who he dated while at West Point, on May 26, 1910. Patton was taking lessons at the French Cavalry School and studying French sword drills. In 1913 Patton received orders to report to the commandant of the Mounted Service School in Fort Riley. He began his military career leading cavalry troops against Mexican forces and became the first officer assigned to the new U.S. Army Tank Corps during World War I. He reached his highest point of his career during world war 2 when he lead the U.S. 7th Army in its invasion of Sicily and swept across northern France in 1944. Later that year he lead his troops in the counter attack against the german troops at the battle of Bulge. He then later drove his troops over the Rhine river covering ten thousand miles of German territory, liberating the country of the Natzi regime. Impressed by Patton's determination, Pershing promoted him to Captain and asked him to command his Headquarters Troop upon their return from Mexico. Patton became the first member of the newly established United States Tank Corps. Patton and his men achieved victory at Cambrai, France, during the world's first major tank battle in 1917. General Patton was a very good war leader and had great tactics that he used to win wars. Even though he was a great war leader he could not stop everything and was assassinated. http://www.biography.com/people/george-patton-9434904#awesm=~oDNipZb6poxUVB. http://www.history.com/topics/world-war-ii/george-smith-patton.

Tuskegee Airmen
The Tuskegee airmen were a popular African American pilot group in WWII.
Because they were the first African American group of pilots to help flight in
air to air combat. At first they trained in cheep planes and bi planes as they
got more successful the United States government up graded them to p51 mustangs
and they painted them with red tails. This is how they got their name as 'Red
Tails'. In 1917 the group of men asked to be surveyors but not in combat, they
got rejected. Then they tried to make a test to see if the men were mentally
fit for the job even that it was super easy. Later on they were able to take
down grounded objects such as tanks, trucks and trains. The pilots were less
fortunate in what they got as in planes they the other white pilots. The
Tuskegee pilots still wanted to fight in the war though. One day they had an
opportunity to prove them selves and they took it and succeeded. The
budding flight program at Tuskegee received a publicity boost when First
Lady Eleanor Roosevelt inspected it in March 1941, and flew with
African-American chief civilian instructor C. Alfred "Chief"
Anderson. She was impressed and their name started getting bigger and they
received more support. Soon enough they received p51’s and panted them with red
tails and red tails became their name. They got to fight in air to air combat
and became very successful. In 2012 a movie came out about them named “Red
Tails” . The spread of the tuskee airmen proved that blacks could fight in the war and people started to realize that they were also needed.

Dear, Mom and Dad
It has been a long time since we have talked. Personally I am doing great but i have seen a lot of deaths and it is very scary. I was recruited to be an ambulance driver witch is a safe job but is is horrible to see all the people getting hurt. The Germans are getting very close to paris it is very scary.
everybody is trying their hardest but this trench warfare is very slow moving but hopefully this war will be very quick and I could come home.
It is ridiculous how many people have died. Just the other day I drove Jonney"my old friend" to camp i don't think he is going to live but lets hope for the best. He got shot in the lower chest 3 times by one of the machine guns. I will try to write to you more and remember I love you and hope to see you soon.
Write me back, love

Letter Home
Dear Mom and Dad,
I love you very much, It has been a long six months without talking to you. I miss you very much and i feel the war will be over soon. I have been in the trenches so long that my feet have started to rot and some people say that i have started to get a case of trench foot. The days are very long hear and there are bullets flying everywhere. The days are very long and hard here, especially with my feet the way they are. Sometimes I wake up in the middle of the night Having night terrors because of what I have seen. The war is nothing like what I expected, It is very violent and people die every day. The other day I watched my friend die in my arms.
How are you guys doing? I miss you so much. How is my dog doing without me there? He is probably very sad and depressed. How are things going on the farm without me, is Dad doing ok without me there to help? I cant wait to come home and see you guys and the farm again. I love you so very much and i think about you every day. Write back soon
