Letter home

Dear, Mom and Dad

It has been a long time since we have talked. Personally I am doing great but i have seen a lot of deaths and it is very scary.  I was recruited to be an ambulance driver witch is a safe job but is is horrible to see all the people getting hurt. The Germans are getting very close to paris it is very scary.
everybody is trying their hardest but this trench warfare is very slow moving but hopefully this war will be very quick and I could come home.

It is ridiculous how many people have died. Just the other day I drove Jonney"my old friend" to camp i don't think he is going to live but lets hope for the best. He got shot in the lower chest 3 times by one of the machine guns. I will try to write to you more and remember I love you and hope to see you soon.

                                   Write me back, love
                                                       Michael P.

Letter Home

   Dear Mom and Dad,

I love you very much, It has been a long six months without talking to you. I miss you very much and i feel the war will be over soon. I have been in the trenches so long that my feet have started to rot and some people say that i have started to get a case of trench foot. The days are very long hear and there are bullets flying everywhere. The days are very long and hard here, especially with my feet the way they are. Sometimes I wake up in the middle of the night Having night terrors because of what I have seen. The war is nothing like what I expected, It is very violent and people die every day.  The other day I watched my friend die in my arms.

How are you guys doing? I miss you so much. How is my dog doing without me there? He is probably  very sad and depressed. How are things going on the farm without me, is Dad doing ok without me there to help? I cant wait to come home and see you guys and the farm again. I love you so very much and i think about you every day. Write back soon

                                                                                                   LOVE your son, Mason Eddy

Zimmerman note:
The Zimmermann Telegram was a 1917 diplomatic proposal from the German Empire for Mexico to join the Central Powers, in the event of the United States entering World War I on the side of the Entente Powers. The proposal was intercepted and decoded by British intelligence. This makes brittish scard because the central powers are getting stronger.

Sussex pledge:
The Sussex pledge was a promise made in 1916 during World War I by Germany to the United States prior to the latter's entry into the war. If the germans broke this promace americans would have a reason to go to war.

Unrestricted sub warfare:
A type of naval warfare in which submarines sink vessels such as freighters and tankers without warning. Germens stated sinking ships.

Easter Rebellion Ireland

                                                           Easter Rebellion Ireland

The Easter Uprising took place in April 1916 in Dublin, It is one of the biggest things that has happened in Irish History. The Easter Rebellion, was an armed violent uprising against an authority or government staged in Ireland during the Easter Week of 1916.The uprising was started by Irish republicans with the thought of ending British rule in Ireland. They planned on establishing an independent Irish Republic when the United Kingdom was fighting in World War I. It was one of the most significant uprising in Ireland since the rebellion of 1798. This was a huge deal for Ireland and for the United Kingdom. This uprising lasted for six days in total. Many people joined this uprising even teachers and kids. Only 1,600 out of the 5,000 planned to go showed up at the Liberty Hall. The rebels then declared Ireland an independent republic. Despite the rebels thoughts the public did not help them. The government and police forces quickly took them out. Despite only 64 rebels killed there was many police officers and civilians hurt in the crossfire. 15 of the uprising leads were executed because the started the uprising. Many of the civilians didn't want to get involved because they knew that something bad was going to happen to them like get killed or be executed for doing this. The people of Ireland knew that the people going against british rule would not win due to the significant number advantage british had.

Trench Warfare

Trench Warfare

Trench warfare is a way of fighting during WW l. It was a way of land fighting using long holes or trenches. Troops a lot safer from the enemy's fire. They are also sheltered from the opponents artillery. The most well known usage of trench warfare is the Western Front in WW I. Trench warfare is a slow moving method and their were lots of deaths involved.
With Trench warfare you loose mobility and the defender holds the advantage.  The area between opposing trench lines were exposed to artillery fire. Fighting trenches were usually about 10 feet deep. Trenches were never straight, because then the enemy couldn't fire down the trench they would have to clear sections. The entire trench could not be enfiladed if the enemy gained access at one point or if a bomb or shell landed in the trench the shock could not travel as far.

The trenches were bad to be in because the floor was mud and your feet would get trench foot. Trench foot  is when your feet rot and your boots would keep your feet wet so many people didn't even wear boots. The trenches would be muddy because they would stack bodies and they would rot.
